DIY Edible Flower Ice Cubes

Pretty and edible? Sign me up! The festive season is here and that's got me thinking about all festivities I'll be hosting at home. Tis the season, right? Whether you're a mojito lover or a non alcoholic punch enthusiast, if you're looking for a fun and simple way to dress up your drinks this summer, you have to try these DIY Edible Flower Ice Cubes. You can add them to your cocktails, sparkling water, juice, teas or to a bucket filled with champagne bottles to keep them cool. They look incredibly beautiful and they're such a fun way to elevate any occasion.

And they are so simple to make. You simply place the edible flowers face down into an ice tray, fill the tray with water and freeze. The bigger the ice tray, the better the ice cube but I just used some standard ice trays for this project as I only had one silicon ice tray for 6 large ice cubes and it would have taken a few days to make lots with just the one tray. You can make the edible flower ice cubes in advance so you don't have to worry about those frantic last minute details. They're also a crowd pleaser, so make sure you shake them from the ice tray in front of your guests for that fun wow factor. Want to make your own DIY Edible Flower Ice Cubes this festive season? Read on to find out how.

What You Need

  • Ice tray - the bigger the better
  • Edible flowers (you can get them at IGA and most fruit shops)
  • A jug filled with water

How To

Prepare the ice tray, jug of water and edible flowers. Place the edible flowers facedown into the ice tray (originally I had them facing up but I quickly realised I wouldn't be able to see the flowers as much). Depending on the size of your flowers you may only need one or a couple. If you are using more than one, think about what colours do well together.

Slowly pour the water into the ice tray. Some flowers will rise to the top of the water, that's ok! Feel free to press some flowers back down if you like. Place the ice tray into the freezer and freeze until solid, preferably overnight.

When the ice cubes are solid, turn them out and enjoy! Place them in your drinks or use them to keep bottles cold.

I have to say, making these edible flower ice cubes was so easy, so fun and so satisfying. I loved popping the ice cubes out of the tray and onto the marble bench. They look so pretty, and even more so in your drinks. I hope this little DIY gives you some extra festive cheer!
