Try our bitter and sweet Vietnamese Iced Coffee

This recipe is perfect for iso parents, tired parents, home schooling parents, and basically anyone who loves coffee - Vietnamese Iced Coffee (cà phê sữa đá). In a follow up to our Korean Coffee we made a few weeks ago, we decided to make Vietnamese Coffee. I fell deep in love with this bitter yet sweet coffee (trust me, it’s a match made in heaven) when I travelled around Vietnam a few years ago. The sweetness of the condensed milk mixed with the bitterness of the strong drip coffee enjoyed over several ice cubes is like nothing else. Now we’re well aware not everyone will have a Vietnamese coffee filter at home, otherwise known as a phin. So, consider this our easy yet delicious “instant” version. That’s right, the beautiful thing here is that you don’t need drip coffee. A strong instant coffee works really well. Enjoy that sweet bitter zing!

Ingredients
  • Brewed instant coffee
  • 1 Can of sweetened condensed milk
  • Ice cubes

Method

  1. Assemble your ingredients, including a glass cup and a teaspoon.
  2. Pour the condensed milk into the glass cup. We poured 1/3 condensed milk to 2/3 coffee.
  3. Pour coffee over condensed milk. Splish splash!
  4. Add several ice cubes and stir lovingly.
  5. Enjoy! You can also add the ice cubes after you've mixed the milk and coffee, but we like how the condensed milk sits on the bottom of the glass cup - it's like the chocolate at the bottom of a Cornetto. Yum!
